Ghana’s internet swindlers use old Western laptops to seduce desperate men with a mix of spam and black magic.
Every day we receive spam e-mails from strangers, but who are these people that try to deceive us? In SAKAWA, Belgian-Ghanaian director Ben Asmoah shows us three youngsters from Ghana who, out of desperation, turn to internet scamming with the help of black magic. What is viewed in the West as fraud, is seen by the boys practising „Sakawa“ as the exploitation of available resources. These resources come to them in the form of electronic waste, dumped in their country by the West.
