In December 2016 a remarkable chapter in music history was closed as the Finnish punk rock band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (PKN) retired. Punk Voyage is a feature length documentary film about the last years of the band, with all the ups and downs included.
After becoming celebrities in Finland, this incredible quartet (Kari, Sami. Toni, Pertti) continued to conquer new fans around the World. In its seven years run, PKN played nearly 300 gigs in 16 countries. In 2015 the band was selected to represent Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest.
The busy traveling and success though created a lot of pressure within the band. Kari struggled with the temptations and responsibilities brought by publicity, Sami extended his territory to politics and religion, Toni's and the band's roadie Niila's crushing the same girl caused conflicts, and Pertti decided to retire.
Punk Voyage is a film about being true to yourself, making hard decisions and moving on in life. Sometimes smelly but an unforgettable journey full of drama, tears and laughter.
Comments from the Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (PKN):
"I give this film full ten points."
"I give this film ten poinst and a parrot-award. We do not fight with Sami anymore, because we fought in this film. In Vienna (during the Eurovision Song Contest) I was in a bad mood, but that spilled milk has been long forgotten about. I'm happy that we had this band, and it was the right thing to do to quit when Pertti retired. I'm grateful that we got to see so many places around the world."
"This film is more about our peronal lives. We open ourselves in it more and more. This can become a bit better than The Punk Syndrome."
"In the film it was fun when Kalle and Teukka asked what happened to Toni. And nothing had happened to me."
